![]() The plug or coil which can cause erratic ignition / fuel starvation like symptoms. One last thought, make sure your spark plug cap is firmly seated on both plug and coil ends- the rubber on the stock wire is terrible and loses elasticity and it isnt uncommon for them to not really be seated as a result and are just sort of sitting on Replace the CDI box, they are only 10 - 15 bucks. Other than that the CDI boxes on these are weak, that would be my 3rd guess.Ģ.Fuel tank cleaning, incl inspecting lines for kinks, esp the tank line where it attaches to tank near front edge of the seat. We pulled the tank, flushed it out and blew it out with compressed air, problem solved. ![]() My other suggestion would be possible fuel tank contamination from the factory, i found a significant amount of metal shavings in my buds tank, he could ride around until the trash finally settled on and blocked the fuel petcock outlet, it would quit then eventually the fuel would drip past and catch up flow and it would start again. Tao tao may make their own stuff though, they're a larger company over there. My guess would be valve lash as well - what it sounds like is your valves are too tightĪnd once the bike runs an hour and gets hot they expand even more and so it quits ,these bikes run really lean from the Factory so tight valves can easily exacerbate that into a "wont run " situation. The TaoTao Hellcat 125cc Motorcycle is an affordable alternative to the popular Honda Grom, offering a similar design at a fraction of the cost. Zongshen is a common engine manufacturer over there and they have a lot of parts available directly. Rating: Do you know this bike Click here to rate it. There is some crossover to Japanese or KTM on a lot of the bikes, but it's often not what you may think. But parts are available as much as I've needed, assuming you want to replace with OEM parts. But yes, as mentioned, you can't go to a local dealer and get parts, you'll have to go to eBay/Amazon for that. After doing the initial work, it's been all normal, nothing bad. For someone like me who loves working on bikes, it's been great. We've got 4 chinese vehicles now (dirt-bike, quad, dual-sport, and a scooter), all working great but have required a lot of initial setup that wouldn't be required on a Japanese branded bike like a Grom. Have fun! As long as you're willing to take on the maintenance, some of the Chinese stuff isn't bad. Milk crate and bungee cords are not.Ĭool deal. Honestly, i think it’s a great way to have a means of grabbing supplies from the corner store at the track for less than the cost of a Grom. It will never be a Grom, but it’s the only new bike i have ever purchased, and i won’t flinch when the kids drop it. I just saw a 2015 Grom with 9k miles for $2000. or for $700 more, you came swap in a 190cc crate engine.ĭo i regret the purchase? Not yet. You can make it run well for $0 and add some power for $30. guess we’ll find out.Īnyway, if anyone is on the fence about a Chinese clone, it’s not a grom, but if you’re planning to buy an exhaust and farkle up your Grom anyway, consider the clone. Debating whether or not exhaust is worth it. I have a $32 Mikuni carburetor (copy) on order. That was 2-up if it matters, so about 300 lbs of human. Top speed is a GPS confirmed 49mph with stock gearing and removal of all the emissions garbage. It’s horribly slow, and i encountered several problems, but it runs well now with mild frustration and no cost labor. It was easily $300 more than necessary, but I’m impatient and not that concerned about $300 right now.īut bottom line is this: it runs well. and the vendor cancelled the order the next day, because nothing will be in stock in the states until 2021 at the earliest.įast forward a few weeks, and Amazon had a vendor advertising the “Boom Vader” in stock for $1600 assembled, and shipped to my door. Honestly, i wanted a street legal XR100, but buying a Chinese Grom clone was cheaper and easier.
